Barbican Gate

Northern Ireland, United Kingdom

Thinking of a Medieval Experience as your next vacation?

This is for sure a unique experience that you need to try out on your next holiday! Highly recommended for those looking for a totally different holiday experience.

Built in 1825, The Barbican Gatelodge is a small medieval castle in Glenarm, in the Antrim County region in Northern Ireland (UK).

Barbican is ideally positioned beyond an old stone bridge over the Glenarm River. It is a perfect romantic getaway in one of the county's oldest villages.

The Barbican Gate is currently leased by the Irish Landmark Trust, a nonprofit organization that works to preserve and restore historic properties in Ireland. The Irish Landmark Trust has renovated the building and turned it into unique holiday accommodation, offering visitors the opportunity to stay in a historic and charming setting.

The Barbican Gate has all the mod cons needed to have a joyful and relaxing stay. Available for day and weekend hire, the Barbican Gate is the perfect piece of history you need for a romantic getaway.

The Barbican provides a comfortable lodging, consisting of one double bedroom, one bathroom with a bath (a pure luxury after a long day touring the Antrim Coast and Glens) and a cosy kitchen-sitting room fully equipped with an oven and a kettle, perfectly appointed for preparing simple meals and the welcoming fireside is a cosy spot to curl up with a good book.

You can access the second floor of the castle by a spiral staircase, which guests with mobility issues may find challenging. The tower has a lovely rooftop terrace for a spot of al fresco dining, with a picnic bench which affords significant views over the surrounding countryside.

It's wonderful to see historic buildings being restored and repurposed for modern use, providing visitors with the chance to experience a part of history while enjoying a comfortable stay.

For those looking for a romantic hideaway, this small medieval castle is the perfect accommodation, providing guests with a unique experience, allowing them to stay within the historic structure and immerse themselves in the surrounding castle estate.
